  • For the spring semester, Girls on the Mic will be partnering with Buena Vista Horace Mann for their Middle School Seminar Series.  Each week for 15 weeks, Girls on the Mic staff will bring WAM equipment to BVHM for girls to create their own radio plays, recreate dialogue and foley sound for a cartoon clip, write and produce their own songs on a 4 track recorder and Garage Band, and more.

  • Introduction to Electronic Music Production
    Saturday, 5/21/16 from 10:00AM to 4:00PM

    Join Women’s Audio Mission for Introduction to Electronic Music Production in which we’ll cover the basics of how to navigate and use Ableton Live, including understanding the Session/Arrangement views, how to use clips, adding effects, editing, and recording in Ableton. We’ll dedicate time to understanding how to use MIDI within Ableton, and end with a run through of how to build a song in Ableton, which we’ll do in real-time together with tips on music production, beat production, choosing sounds that blend well together, synth and drum layering.

    Learn to use all of the gear and systems in WAM's professional recording studio. From large format consoles to patch bays, complex headphone systems, microphones and signal processors. Learn the signal flow and how to properly connect gear in a multi-room recording studio.

  • Aim High back at WAM studio for 5th summer!

    Aim High, the Bay Area's largest summer program provider for at risk youth in the Bay Area, has partnered with Girls on the Mic once again this year. This marks our fifth year anniversary with the Aim High program!  The summer intensive will run through the end of July.

  • WAM Level 2 - Mixing and Signal Processing
    3 Wednesdays - August 10, 17, and 24 7:00-9:00pm

    Price: $60 members, $90 non-members


    Learn the proper way to apply all of the types of signal processing using outboard analog gear and digital plug-ins. Includes EQ (Equalizers), dynamic processing (compressors, gates) and time based processing (delays, chorus, reverb, etc.). Finish up the class with an overview of a mixing session in WAM's professional studio!

  • Summer workshop with Cal-SAFE Fruitvale Academy
    6/14/16 - 8/25/16 Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:00 - 4:30

    WAM is excited to begin a partnership with the Cal-safe (California School Age Families Education) program in Oakland this summer.  Cal-Safe is a program that serves expectant and parenting students aged 13 to 18 who have not completed high school and who live within the Oakland school district.

    The program's overall goals are to enable motivated students to complete their high school education, to learn to provide a safe and caring environment for their young children, to secure gainful employment, and ultimately become fully self-reliant.
