Bay Area-based group, La Gente, tracked drums at WAM today with engineer, Maya Finlay. The group is multilingual and international and plays self-dubbed "Califusion," a mix of reggae, cumbia, hip-hop, salsa, rock and reggaeton.

We just wrapped up an intensive after-school program with the girls from Citizen Schools/United for Success in Oakland. The program culminated in a live recording session in which girls learned basic operating skills on the console, recorded adult musicians and each other playing guitar, drums, and singing, and got to experience what happens in a real recording session.

It was really inspiring to meet her in person, along with independent documentary filmmaker, Sanjay Kak.

Last weekend was incredibly busy at WAM. Right after the Kronos Quartet session, we had all-female, Bay Area-based mariachi band Mariachi Femenil Orgullo Mexicano back in the studio to record overdubs. We used an AEA R84 and an Advanced Audio CM-47 in the session - both really helped the music shine! We'll be mixing the tracks next week and can't wait to hear the final product.
