WAM workshops are back! First up, "Introduction to Sound for Film," on March 11, 7-9:30pm. Learn the fundamentals, from one of the best--Pixar's M.T. Silvia.

This one-night course will cover the elements of sound for film and video: In-depth examples from major motion pictures will be used to discuss the techniques, technology and workflow involved in creating sound for film. This is a rare appearance by industry veteran M.T. Silvia, who has worked for over 20 years at both Skywalker Sound and Pixar Animation Studios; and Emmy-nominated engineer Lauretta Molitor. M.T. Silvia (Producer/Director) is an independent filmmaker. Her first documentary, Picardy Drive (2002) aired on KQED's ImageMaker series, FreeSpeechTV, and is available on home video. Silvia has worked professionally as an engineer in the film industry for more than twenty years at both Skywalker Sound and Pixar Animation Studios. Among many mainstream film credits, she has also worked as a recording engineer on David Lynch's Wild at Heart, and was assistant sound editor on the 1996 documentary It's Elementary, and the 1997 drama Mary Jane's Not a Virgin Anymore.

Lauretta Molitor is a Bay Area-based audio engineer who has recorded sound for a spectrum of film and TV projects; her credits include "Survivor," "Nova," "Frontline," "Great Performances: the San Francisco Ballet's Nutcracker," and the acclaimed 1996 documentary "The Celluloid Closet."
