Girls on the Mic Spring Madness - Expanding Your Horizons, Citizen Schools, Everett Middle School and more!

We just finished up two very successful events at the Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) conferences at UC Berkeley and Skyline College. EYH is a nonprofit that holds conferences around the country that expose middle school girls to careers in science, technology, and math.

Kelley Coyne, our newest Girls on the Mic Coordinator, and her indefatiguable WAM volunteers have held Girls on the Mic classes for middle school and high school-aged girls from Thomas Edison Charter Academy, Holy Names High School, the Expanding Your Horizons Conference in Solano County, and will finish out the month by starting a series of classes with female youth from Citizen Schools. Check out some of the highlights below - we've been really lucky and excited to work with such enthusiastic, bright youth!

New, donated software, gear and goodies at WAM!
December 11, 2012 - 11:56am — noelleduncan@gm...WAM is delighted to have some awesome new software and gear in the studio thanks to the generosity of our industry supporters. Here's the rundown of the newest additions to the WAM studio! We're really excited to start using all of it.
SoundToys donated the Native Effects and TDM Effects to our studio. We've already used SPEED in one session and we're loving it. We can't wait to explore all of the other plug-ins included in both of these fabulous bundles. Thank you, SoundToys!
WAM Fall Level One Certificate Course Completed!
November 29, 2012 - 4:06pm — noelleduncan@gm...We were excited to be able to offer our Level One Certificate Course yet again this fall. We had an outpouring of interest in the class and were at full capacity. The students learned all about the science of sound, signal flow, microphones, digital audio, and even learned how to solder! WAM at AES 2012: Parties, panels, and more!

This AES, we hosted a panel on the "Women of Professional Concert Sound", participated in a panel on studios built for educational purposes, hosted our biannual WAM Happy Hour Party at 111 Minna (with over 400 people!), and ran the WAM booth all three days of AES.
Vân-Ánh Vanessa Võ Back in the WAM Studio

Sharon Larson teaches Location Sound for TV class at WAM
May 30, 2012 - 11:07am — noelleduncan@gm...WAM hosted a Location Sound for Television class last night taught by Sharon Larson, a professional sound/mixer boom op that has worked on shows for NBC, Lifetime, A&E, AMC, ESPN, and various commercials.
WAM members learned about proper boom technique, the essential gear you should include in your location sound set-up (including items that camera folks might need), and common problems shooting outside vs. inside. Other topics covered were appropriate behavior on set and how to place a wireless lav on James Brown!
